Road Warrior App Review: Is It Any Good? Expert Analysis
The RoadWarrior App is a basic route planning tool that’s ideal for small last mile delivery operations with basic route optimization needs.
The software undoubtedly makes route planning and last mile delivery smoother, faster, and more efficient. However, it lacks core features like customer notifications and live updates which improve both delivery success rates and customer satisfaction.
RoadWarrior also lacks a delivery analytics dashboard, which is key for making your operation efficient and keeping costs low.
At $14.99 per team member per month, it has a low starting price that many customers will love. Although, if you need proof of delivery you will be charged extra.
RoadWarrior users also report struggling with:
• The pricing doesn’t suit companies that manage several drivers ($14.99 per month/driver adds up fast)
• Customer service has room for improvement (and could do more to adopt suggestions)
• Route optimization could be improved (sometimes drivers report having to loop back to a street they were on hours earlier)
• The app limits how many stops can be assigned to a route and caps the number of times you can optimize in a day
What is RoadWarrior? RoadWarrior’s Core Features
Dispatchers and drivers want a delivery management software that makes their jobs easier and boosts their performance. That means shorter, faster routes and less time manually organizing stops.
RoadWarrior does a decent job of delivering against those expectations thanks to these core features:
- Route optimization — To get you the fastest route possible, RoadWarrior optimizes for conditions like traffic, drop-off priorities, school zones, tolls, and one way trips. It also lets you schedule availability windows in to make sure you drop packages off at a business while they’re open and not a minute too late.
- Driver route tracking — By checking in on who’s on track and who’s falling behind, you can reassign stops on the fly or merge several routes into one.
- Route reporting — Access and download routes that have been taken in the past to use them again and track success rates manually.
But better performance includes reducing missed deliveries and improving the experience of customers.
And that’s where RoadWarrior falls short. The app is unable to send customer notifications and Proof of Delivery (PoD) is only available if you pay extra for it ($10 extra, per month, per driver).
So while you can track driver progress, your customers can’t. This makes it difficult for them to schedule their day around a delivery or get proof it's been delivered. When that’s the case, you’re more susceptible to disputes, missed deliveries, and lost packages.
You could pay for it but a team of 500 drivers becomes $5000 extra a month.
RoadWarrior does have a 4.5 star rating on Capterra and G2, so it may be that their customers want basic route planning and like it for what it is. And maybe they don’t know what they’re missing when it comes to the cost-saving benefits customer notifications or proof of delivery bring.
A dispatcher running a complex last mile delivery operation would need a more sophisticated tool with those features built-in.
For example, Circuit for Teams has both notification and PoD, and includes them in all pricing tiers.
Despite their positive rating, RoadWarrior customers do often find fault with how the platform works.
The say its ‘clunky’ (and note the “basic” route planning highlight—if you’re looking for a robust solution, RoadWarrior may not be for you):
Source: G2
And difficult to use:
“Not user friendly until you've learned it. Difficult to learn how to load routes from spreadsheets and save them. Couldn't figure out how to save and I lost routes as a result. Menus are not intuitive. The word "save" does not appear anywhere on a menu, so I lost work.” — G2 Review
Let’s look at the differences between a 4.5 star software like RoadWarrior and a 4.8 star software like Circuit for Teams:
RoadWarrior is a step up from managing your routes manually. But we can’t think of a reality where customer notifications don't help your business operate more cost-efficiently while improving the experience for recipients.
We think Circuit for Teams is the best RoadWarrior alternative, giving you more essential features without hiking up the costs.
Of course we would say that, so we brought real-customer reviews to back us up.
Here’s what our users say about Circuit in Capterra and GetApp reviews:
• “It's a great inexpensive app which is easy to use, constantly being improved and is very well supported by their customer service team.”
• “This product has an excellent User Interface that is both friendly and intuitive”
• “The most impactful thing about Circuit is really the efficiency it has brought to our company overall. From communication between dispatchers and customers, to the effectiveness of the drivers, to the massively reduced training time of new employees, Circuit has made unbelievable changes to our overall performance.”

RoadWarrior App Reviews - We Analyze What Users Think
Still unsure if RoadWarrior is right for you? Let’s dive a little deeper into their user feedback from across the internet.
The Most Important Feature: Is RoadWarrior Good for Route Optimization?
More often than not, route optimization is the feature a dispatcher needs most.
Manually organizing and assigning routes is cumbersome and drivers end up spending hours longer on the road than they need to thanks to disruptions.
So you need your delivery management software to at least get this right.
When it comes to RoadWarriors reliability, it’s a mixed bag.
On the one hand, it ‘does exactly what it says’.
Source: G2
But on the other, “it likes loops which can increase drive time if you're not paying attention”:
Source: G2
Everyone hates spaghetti routes that mean you have to double back, they’re inefficient for dispatchers and frustrating for drivers.
Well, RoadWarriors routes aren’t always logical:
“Sometimes when optimizing, we have to manually arrange the route because it tries to send us to a location that is across the road hours later.”— G2 Review
This might be an easy thing to edit manually but the algorithm should work well enough that you don’t need to in the first place.
If you don’t catch it, your driver could end up spending unnecessary (and billable) time on the road.
All in all, RoadWarrior’s route optimization does what it says, it just doesn’t always do it well.
RoadWarrior App Reviews - Pros
There are two things RoadWarrior excels at.
First, it’s pretty cheap if you manage a small fleet or are a solo driver.
At $14.99 a month/driver, RoadWarrior is far more affordable for small companies compared to a tool like Onfleet (which starts at $550 per month).
Many RoadWarrior customers love that they have the option to affordably optimize and track their routes.
It comes up again and again in user reviews. Here are two examples:
Source: G2
Source: G2
How do we know the price is right for small fleets of drivers and not bigger ones? Because as soon as the number of drivers goes up, the cost goes from being a positive to a negative.
Take this Capterra review from Riley which states, “I usually end up having 5 drivers and so I wish the cost was a little cheaper.”
The platform also caps optimization at 500 stops a day. Medium to large businesses would exceed that quickly.
The second thing it does well is cutting time spent planning routes.
“Before, it would take me 2 days to get the mapping and scheduling done manually. 2 full work days. Now, it takes me about 3 to 5 hours to create a week's worth of routes for the 2 guys. This has saved me a lot of time, and the guys like it too.”— G2 Review
RoadWarrior App Reviews - Cons
When looking through RoadWarriors reviews, it’s clear that customers struggled with similar issues. These three stood out.
First, RoadWarrior limits how many stops you can make and how often you can optimize routes.
RoadWarrior lets dispatchers create routes with up to 200 stops. But for many, that’s not enough. It certainly isn’t for one customer who wrote the following in their review:
“I don't like the limitations on only having 200 stops, others have 500 or more.” —G2 Review
This person even calls out that other software offers 500+ stops. And they’re right. At Circuit, our plans start at 500 stops. And we would never dream of capping the number.
It wasn’t a one-off complaint either. Another reviewer shared that “200 address limit can be a problem” – G2 review.
Stops aren’t the only limitation. RoadWarrior limits how many times you can optimize per day.
“They give you a limit on how many times you can optimize per day. I've reached the cap too often and the team tells me not to over use the optimization, but creating a good route to maximize my time for my job is essential. ” - G2 Review
Second, customer service is poor.
When a software or product lets you down, you expect customer service to set it right. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case with RoadWarrior.
One disgruntled customer shared the following:
Source: G2
I wouldn’t dismiss a software because of one bad review. But if it's mentioned more than once, there may be a bigger issue.
Source: G2
And finally, route planning functionality is too basic.
Even small teams need dynamic route planning features that fit their needs. Saving routes they know they’ll use again, searching through them to find past data, analyzing success rates.
These all help a dispatcher save time and improve route efficiency. RoadWarrior’s route planning is too basic to accommodate that.
Customers have shared:
- “I would love to be able to save my stops and be able to load them by company name and/ or city after the address is saved.” - Review
- “I wish I could compare routes. For example, I'd like to compare each guys towns and site placements to see if I need to switch any of the towns for the guys due to location.” – Review
- “my routes often spread over the course of more than one day. I wish there was an option to check my last "stop" for the day as my hotel and make it an overnight. Currently, I have to calculate roughly how many minutes I will be at my hotel, up to 999, to try and arrange the following day's stops. It can be a bit time-consuming of a feature.” – Review
Do All Users Like RoadWarrior? What Drivers Really Think
Many of RoadWarriors reviews are from drivers who complete routes as part of their job.
Think sales professionals rather than delivery drivers. For the most part, they get what they need out of the software.
When it comes to delivery drivers who are part of a retailer or courier company, they also find the app easy to use.
For example, Nigel, a Group Business System Support Administrator wrote that the app is easy to use for drivers and that they actually want to use it:
Source: G2
Don’t underestimate the impact of having an easy to use app for drivers.
The less time they spend trying to use it correctly, the faster they can complete their routes. That’s a win for you and them.
RoadWarrior Pricing
RoadWarrior is priced at $14.99 per month, per team member (with a 7-day free trial). Team members include all your drivers, not just the dispatchers who manage them.
So while it’s affordable to start, RoadWarrior becomes expensive as your driver fleet grows.
I wouldn’t bat my eyes at $14.99 a month. But I would at $759.50 a month for a team of 50 drivers. Especially when it doesn’t matter how many deliveries you’re actually completing.
Want Proof of Delivery? That’s a $10 monthly add-on per driver. And let’s be honest, everyone wants PoD as part of their delivery management software.
At a basic level RoadWarrior is more affordable than many other delivery management software—Onfleet comes to mind. But the pricing isn’t as flexible or scalable as it could be.
Looking for a more flexible alternative? Circuit for Teams’ pricing is based on the number of stops you make, not the number of drivers you have. It’s actually tied to the business you bring in, never stripping you of funds you don’t have. Learn more about us here or sign up for a free 7-day trial.
👋 Meet Circuit | A More Capable Delivery Management Software
Circuit is a delivery management software that caters to the delivery needs of retail and courier companies large and small.
It doesn’t matter if a dispatcher manages 1 driver or 500—they have the features they need to operate professionally and efficiently. That includes customer notifications, proof of delivery, advanced analytics, multi-depot management, and live route tracking.
And unlike RoadWarrior, our features are far from basic—they’re flexible, customizable, and reliable.
Your drivers won’t have to loop back to roads they’ve already delivered on, your dispatchers can automatically assign drivers to routes they are most efficient at driving, and there’s no cap on the stops you can make or the times you can optimize.
Here are three areas where RoadWarrior pales in comparison to Circuit:
1. Reduced Delivery Costs, Disputes, and Time on the Road
We mentioned before that RoadWarrior doesn’t have customer notifications and that proof of delivery is an additional cost.
With Circuit for Teams, you get both and don’t have to pay extra. We see these features as critical to increasing successful delivery rates because your customers will know exactly when their package is coming.
And if there is a dispute, you have photographic evidence the package was delivered safely.
You won’t have to repeat deliveries or replace lost packages—that’s money saved. We know it works because our clients reduce delivery costs by 20%.
Learn more about our flexible proof of delivery and customer notifications.
Our route optimization is also more reliable. Users rarely report glitches and drivers love that they’re organized logically. If there are multiple deliveries to one location, one driver is assigned all of them and the algorithm prevents unnecessary ‘loops’ or overlaps.
A real Circuit customer, Osamah, reported an increase in efficiency from route optimization:
I [knew] it shouldn’t be taking four hours for somebody to do 10 stops, but it [was] because we had people’s routes crisscrossing,” Osamah said. “[Circuit has] reduced our delivery times by almost 50% … just via the routing optimization.
If your driver knows a way to make the route faster, they can edit it themselves and capitalize on their knowledge of traffic, road closures, and more. Users love that this can increase the number of deliveries made in a day and gives their drivers the time to attempt missed deliveries if they need to.
2. Operational Efficiency with Advanced Analytics
Alongside route optimization and driver tracking, Circuit for Teams customers can use their analytics dashboard to further optimize their operation.
For example, they can see if:
- One driver regularly outperforms or underperforms others
- A route that gets used again and again is taking longer than it should
- A repeat customer constantly disputes deliveries
You can also see if success rates are climbing or slacking or break down data by driver, by stop type, by time, and more.
RoadWarrior doesn’t have an analytics dashboard, it only lets you download routes in the form of reports.
3. Stellar Customer Service
If doing a side by side comparison of RoadWarrior and Circuit, you’ll see that their customer service earns a commendable 4.3 while ours gets a strong 4.7.
Those extra points are the result of fast resolutions to problems and our work to improve the product off the back of suggestions and complaints.
This is what Tim S. had to say about our ability to improve the product to meet customer needs:
Source: GetApp
Compare that to Biscottina B. who was frustrated that RoadWarrior hadn’t taken her suggestion on board:
Source: G2
It’s these three things (reduced costs, improved efficiency, and customer service) that makes us the best RoadWarrior alternative.
But of course, we would say that. So we’ll leave you with the words of a Redditor who said it much better than we ever could.
